Analyse the interrelationship among myth, symbol and ritual.

  1. Previously I had defined myth. Now what is a symbol? It can be defined as an object, person or event that represents something else (Oxford English Dictionary). According to the same source, a ritual is something that is habitually done in the same way.

These three are all interrelated when one thinks of them in relation to a Religious practice or any Religion. Firstly a religious practice normally has a myth attached to it or some aspect of it.

Secondly, symbols play an integral part in a relgious practice or any religion and thirdly, religious practices or the way one worships is usually ritualized. Therefore, in my opinion, religion embodies the use of all three concepts.

  2. A myth is a story that emphasize the belief in a deity or tradition of a people.
A symbol is a image or object used to represent something else.eg. an object that represent a god.
Ritual is a ceremonial act involved in transformation from one stage to the next.

In religion the interrelation among myth, symbol and ritual are there has to be a belief in a ultimacy or god.an object maybe used to symbolically represents the god or ultimacy that is believed in(in christianity the cross) and ritual are performed to identify with or gain personal relations with the god.(in christianity baptism ceremonical act that represent re-birth).In conclusion all three are associated.

  5. My view on how the three are interrelated is, the symbol which can either be an object or a gesture, provides identity for the myth while the ritual allows the traditional practices.

    • Myths contain stories of original RITUAL practices; Myths guide ritual activity for future believers. Ideally, ritual activity answers boundary questions; believers enter into a state of religious experience.

  8. Myths are symbolic tales of the distant past (Often primordial times) that concern cosmogony and cosmology(the origin and nature of the universe)connected to belief systems or rituals, and serve social action and values.

Symbol is something such as an object, picture, written, word, sound, or particular mark that represents something else by association, resemblance, or convention.

A ritual is a set of actions, performed mainly for their symbolic value.

the interrelationship among myth symbol and ritual is that a myth is something that a person believe without having any stable proof of its existence while rituals are common actions that people perform during special times whether it be the birth of a child, marriage or death. these will also come about while there is a symbol present cause this is what they worship in most cases. the key words to cove this relationship is worship, perform and belief.

Myth is a made up story that is based upon ancient history of how living and nonliving things came into existence and the relationship between God and human.

Symbol helps to identify and create a expression of the moral attributes of a society or religion so that you can experience true worship.

Ritual is set of procedures happening at different stages in religion or traditional society.

These are some what similar but they plays different roles for example when a child is born, a red cord is place on the child hand to protect them from evil spirit, the cross is use as a symbol for christian and rituals- are preformed, at birth the om is place an a Hindu child tongue using a golden pen dipped into honey.
